The Hogue Cellars winemakers craft the Terroir line to showcase wines that are unique as varietals and that express the singularity of esteemed vineyard sites in Washington State. Made in limited quantities, these wines are sold only at the winery and by mail.
The 2015 Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon opens with wild blueberry, blackberry, fig, cassis, cocoa, dried cherry, leather, vanilla, and nutmeg aromas. This wine is layered with blackberry, plum, dark chocolate, coffee, and toasty oak flavors. A silky weight and great finesse are the trademarks of this Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon. Pair this wine with pepper steak, prime rib, roast lamb, or dark chocolates.
Vintage and Vineyards
2015 was another very warm year with an early spring, which allowed the grapes to develop the full, ripe fruit flavors and aromas, and soft, supple tannins, associated with excellent quality wines. The grapes for this wine were harvested primarily from the Red Mountain (96%), an area known for growing great Cabernet Sauvignon, with a small amount coming from Snipes Mountain (4%). This is a wine that can be cellared for some time, as it only gets better with proper aging.
The grapes were hand-picked during the day to take advantage of the sun’s heat for warm, effective macerations. The grapes were destemmed, crushed, and fermented in small bins. The wine rested for 21 months in a mixture of old and new French oak barrels before being bottled in August 2017.
