The Hogue Cellars winemakers craft the Terroir line to showcase wines that are unique as varietals and that express the singularity of esteemed vineyard sites in Washington state. Made in limited quantities, these wines are sold only at the winery and by mail.
The 2016 GSM displays a lively nose of black cherry, strawberry, black raspberry, black pepper, and spice, with touches of vanilla and cream. The wine is creamy and soft, with a palate of black cherry, plum, spice, pepper, and nutmeg flavors. Silky weight and great finesse are hallmarks of this GSM. With its well-structured tannins, this wine pairs well with duck, roast beef, or barbecued pork ribs.
Vintage and Vineyards
2016 was another warm year with an early spring. The grapes ripened fully early in the growing season with good acidity and Brix levels. The fruit for this GSM was harvested exclusively from Lonesome Valley Vineyard in the renowned Yakima Valley. The long, sun-drenched days in the valley allow the grapes to fully ripen and produce expressive wines with intense, ripe flavors and aromas.
The grapes were hand-picked during daylight hours, to take advantage of the sun’s heat for warm, effective macerations. The grapes were destemmed, crushed, and fermented in small bins. The wine rested for 21 months in a mixture of old and new American and French oak barrels before being bottled in August 2018.
