Our Reserve wines are sourced from the best Yakima Valley vineyard lots for aging in our finest French oak barrels. Hogue 2015 Reserve Chardonnay opens with toasty aromas of baked apple, Bosc pear, vanilla, cinnamon, and a slight hint of butter. The palate is balanced, rich, silky, and concentrated with vanilla, cream, spice, and nutmeg. Pair with grilled sockeye salmon, pasta alfredo, brie or other warm, ripened soft cheeses, roast chicken with tarragon, or halibut in a butter sauce.
Vintage and Vineyards
In 2015, Mother Nature dealt Washington State another hot, early year, but Chardonnay showed a preference for the heat and made very nice wine. The grapes were picked with full malolactic fermentation in mind, so we selected vineyards with full leaf cover and thus higher levels of malate. Yakima Valley vineyards, including Brooks, Sunnyside, and Heinz, were selected on flavor at the upper Brix range to result in a ripe, rich, full-bodied wine.
This wine is an homage to traditional Burgundian winemaking practices. It underwent 100% malolactic fermentation and was fermented in French Burgundy barrels. The wine was aged sur lie, stirred every other week during the 10-month aging process, and gently racked only once.
