During the grape growing season, Eastern Washington boasts warm summer days followed by cool nights, ensuring that grapes ripen fully while retaining ample natural acidity. The 2017 Riesling reveals ripe aromas and flavors of apple and lime with subtle notes of peach and melon. The wine is crisp and well balanced with an off-dry style. Pair this fruit-driven, food-friendly wine with fresh pear and apple slices, hard cheeses with nuts, whitefish and other seafood dishes with low to moderate oil content, or spicy Thai cuisine.
Vintage and Vineyards
2017 brought another warm growing season to eastern Washington. The warmth came earlier in the season which caused the grape vines to ripen very early. The initial pickings of Riesling were much higher in sugar than expected, therefore the fruit was brought in as quickly as possible to catch up with the high Brix levels. Due to the early warmth of the growing season, this Columbia Valley White Riesling is slightly sweeter than past vintages. The fruit for this wine was sourced from premier vineyards in Yakima Valley (96%) and Snipes Mountain (4%).
Riesling is at its best in eastern Washington when picked fully mature and fermented cold to preserve its fresh fruit character. Our Riesling is night-harvested, when the fruit is cool, pressed, and then fermented in stainless steel between 48°F and 57°F. To keep the fruit focus, the new wine goes directly from stainless steel to the bottle.
