2016 Terroir Edelzwicker
The 2016 Edelzwicker was inspired by the original prestigious designation—including only noble varietals, such as Gewürztraminer,
Pinot Gris, Riesling, and Muscat Canelli. It displays refreshing green apple, lychee, lemon, and stone fruit. The palate is clean and crisp
with citrus, white flowers, and melon flavors. This well-balanced Alsatian-style blend has a wonderful medium-to-long finish.
THE VINTAGE AND VINEYARDS
The 2016 growing season was, again, extremely warm with an earlier-than-average harvest. Summer was very hot, with no rain from
mid-May to mid-August. Cooler climate vines such as Riesling and Gewurztraminer reacted to these conditions by shutting down, pushing harvest up to the third week of August. Fruit intensity was lighter than normal, resulting in delicate white wines with ripe flavors. Fruit for this wine was exclusively sourced from the Columbia Valley, from such esteemed vineyard sites as Art Den Hoed Vineyard, Hogue Ranches, Flying M Vineyard, Andrews Vineyard, Olsen Vineyard, and others.
Grapes were picked at night and in the early morning hours, when sugar levels are stable. They were then brought direct to press to extract fresh fruit character before fermentation in 100% stainless steel. The wine was bottled in mid-February. With no oak influence,
the wine displays a crisp, refreshing character.
