2016 Terroir Dry Riesling
The 2016 Dry Riesling displays apple, lime, and peach on the nose. The palate is clean and exceedingly smooth, with lime and subtle peach flavors. This wine has a subliminal sweetness with well-balanced acidity and touches of minerality. Pair with chicken satay or grilled halibut.
VINTAGE AND VINEYARDS
2016 was another extremely early, warm harvest season. Moderate temperatures during August and September proved to be cool enough to allow a nice Riesling harvest. The fruit was sourced exclusively from the O’Brien Vineyard, located in the lower Yakima Valley between Prosser and Benton City. This site has fairly deep soils and good leaf cover for the fruit. These conditions allow the flavor development of the fruit to keep pace with the sugar accumulation.
The grapes were primarily hand harvested during daylight hours to take advantage of the sun’s heat for warm, effective macerations. The grapes were brought direct to press, without destemming or crushing, before fermentation in 100% stainless steel. It was bottled in late February. With no oak influence, the wine displays crisp, refreshing character.
