2013 Terroir Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon
The Hogue Cellars winemakers craft the Terroir line to showcase wines that are unique as varietals and that express the singularity of esteemed vineyard sites in Washington state. Made in limited quantities, these wines are sold only at the winery tasting room and by mail. The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon displays wild blueberry, blackberry, fig, cocoa, dried cherry, vanilla, and nutmeg on the nose. The palate is diverse with blackberry, plum, dark chocolate, and coffee flavors. Silky weight and great finesse are the trademarks of this big Cabernet Sauvignon. Pair with pepper steak, seared prime rib, or dark chocolates.
VINTAGE AND VINEYARDS
The 2013 growing season saw above-average temperatures, providing the perfect conditions for red grapes throughout Washington state. The dry, warm conditions led to the grapes fully ripening and developing the excellent varietal flavors we know and expect from the region. The grapes were harvested exclusively from Out of Line Vineyard in Red Mountain. Credited to an incredible vintage year, this Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon marks the first for The Hogue Cellars in some time. The wine resulted with amazing color and depth, with silky tannins and vibrant fruit. It should be cellared for some time, as it will only get better with aging.
The grapes were hand harvested during daylight hours, to take advantage of the sun’s heat for warm, effective macerations. The grapes were crushed, destemmed, and fermented in small bins. The wine rested for 15 months in a mixture of old and new French oak barrels before being bottled in mid-September.
